God’s
Moral Standard and the Sin of Homosexuality
The
Normalization of Sin in Our Culture
Each year
in June, our society highlights what it calls “Pride Month,” a
celebration of LGBTQ identities and lifestyles. This movement has
succeeded in saturating media, entertainment, advertising, and even
education with pro-homosexual messaging. It has skillfully framed
opposition to homosexuality as a civil rights issue. Yet in the
midst of this cultural shift, many—even religious people—no longer
regard the Bible as their moral authority.
God’s
Word: The Only Authority That Matters
Proverbs
14:34 declares, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a
reproach to any people.” Isaiah 8:20 warns, “To the law and to the
testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is
because there is no light in them.” It is not the government,
society, or Supreme Court that determines what is right—it is God’s
Word alone. And God has spoken plainly on this subject in every age.
God’s
Design from the Beginning
In
Genesis 2:21–24, God instituted marriage between one man and one
woman. This was His divine order and natural design. Jesus
reaffirmed this truth in Matthew 19:4–6, making clear that marriage
is between male and female, joined together by God as one flesh.
Homosexual behavior stands in direct rebellion against this design.
The
Sin of Sodom and the Patriarchal Age
Genesis
18–19 recounts the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah. Their
sin—homosexual aggression—was described by God as “very grave.” Lot,
recognizing the evil of their desires, pleaded with them not to “do
so wickedly” (Gen. 19:7). Jude 7 describes their sin as “going after
strange flesh” and says they suffered the vengeance of eternal fire.
God’s condemnation of homosexuality was clear even before the Law of
Moses.
God’s
Law Under Moses
Leviticus
18:22 and 20:13 unmistakably label homosexual acts as “an
abomination” and prescribe the death penalty for those who practice
them. God warned that such sins defiled the land and provoked His
wrath. He called the behavior perversion and said He hated it
intensely (Lev. 20:23).
The
Tribe of Benjamin and National Judgment
Judges
19–21 tells the tragic story of the near-destruction of the tribe of
Benjamin after homosexual men in Gibeah attempted to rape a Levite.
God described their acts as wicked and perverse. Their crime brought
the wrath of the other tribes, and nearly every man of Benjamin was
slain. This shows that moral corruption leads to national ruin.
Woe to
Those Who Call Evil Good
Isaiah
5:20–24 speaks to our modern world: “Woe to those who call evil
good, and good evil.” When people twist morality and reject God’s
Word, destruction follows. God’s judgment comes upon those who
despise His truth—regardless of what society applauds.
New
Testament Condemnation
Romans
1:24–32 describes homosexual behavior as “vile,” “shameful,”
“against nature,” and “debased.” Paul says those who practice or
approve of such things are “deserving of death.” God did not mince
words. Homosexuality dishonors the body and violates the created
order. The passage is a sober warning to a culture that celebrates
sin.
There
Is Hope—Change Is Possible
In 1
Corinthians 6:9–11, Paul includes homosexuals among those who “will
not inherit the kingdom of God.” But then he says, “And such were
some of you.” Some in Corinth had once practiced homosexuality, but
they were washed, sanctified, and justified. They repented. There is
no such thing as a practicing Christian homosexual. One must choose
repentance and obedience to God.
Contrary to Sound Doctrine
In 1
Timothy 1:8–10, homosexuality is listed among sins “contrary to
sound doctrine.” The Bible condemns all forms of sexual immorality,
and Christians are called to holiness. Hebrews 13:4 reminds us that
marriage is honorable, and God will judge fornicators and
adulterers.
The
Call to Repentance and Forgiveness
God’s
Word is consistent in every age. Homosexuality is sin, but like any
sin, it can be forgiven. Isaiah 55:7 urges, “Let the wicked forsake
his way… and He will abundantly pardon.” God offers mercy, but only
to those who repent. 2 Corinthians 5:10 assures that all will face
judgment. Now is the time to turn back to the Lord.

Call
to Action
This is
not about hate—it’s about truth, holiness, and salvation. God has
spoken clearly. No matter what our culture affirms, God’s Word is
final. If you are living in sin, today is the day to repent. If
you’ve approved of what God condemns, now is the time to change.
There is hope for everyone through the cleansing blood of Jesus.
Like the Corinthians, you too can be washed, sanctified, and
justified—if you will turn back to God. The invitation is open. Come
while there is still time.
