Jonathan – יוֹנָתָ֥ן

 

I) Meaning of the name

A) Jonathan – יוֹנָתָ֥ן

1) The Lord has given

1) Saul – שָׁאוּל – Σαούλ

(a) Asked for (of God), or in this case demanded (of God)

(b) Jonathan’s father

2) David – דָּוִד – Δαυίδ

(a) Beloved one

3) Ahinoam – אֲחִינֹעַם

(a) My brother’s delight

(b) Jonathan’s mother

II) Family Background

A) Jonathan was the oldest son of Saul.  The heir apparent, he was the son of Saul’s wife Ahinoam.  He had two brothers, two sisters, and at least two half-brothers from Saul’s concubine Rizpah.
